Earlier this year, Zouk Singapore was fighting for the right to remain on the site they have occupied for over two decades. Increasing government scrutiny was threatening a landmark institution — the club that has been a flag bearer for electronic music in Asia for so long.
A campaign led by the club, supported by DJ Mag and by DJs including Hardwell, Carl Craig and Carl Cox managed to gain the venue a temporary reprieve. And although the Zouk team believe they will still have to relocate in 2017 they are hanging onto their spiritual home, for now.
And what a home it is — spread across three rooms, this iconic venue is famed for their passionate crowd, a soundsystem to rival any on this list and a booking policy that enables the venue to keep the masses happy with EDM stars like Hardwell and Laidback Luke whilst simultaneously educating the heads with acts like Sven Väth, Dubfire and Bonobo in Velvet — the underground room that has gone from strength-to-strength in recent years.
